Five warmups that never fail (and why they work)
Every trainer has nights where the room walks in tired, distracted or shy. These five warmups have never let me down.
1. Crazy Eights — ninety seconds of shaking limbs wakes up bodies faster than any talk. Do it before anything else.
2. Zip Zap Zop — it looks like a focus game, but it's really a permission game: the first mistake and the first laugh happen within a minute, and suddenly failing is safe.
3. Yes Let's! — the purest dose of acceptance. Watch who proposes and who only follows; you'll learn a lot about tonight's room.
4. Group Counting (21) — when the group is scattered, nothing gathers attention like a game you can only win by listening. Celebrate every restart loudly.
5. Hot Spot — for confident groups only, but nothing builds 'I've got your back' faster than being rescued mid-song.
The pattern: body first, then acceptance, then listening, then courage. Order matters more than the games themselves.
