Improv Genre Replay
Players perform a short, neutral one-minute scene — an everyday moment with clear beats. Then they replay it, keeping the exact same story and lines, but in a genre the audience names: film noir, telenovela, western, horror, silent movie. The beats stay identical, and the genre does all the comedy. It's a precision-and-style exercise. Because the story is fixed, players can't hide in plot — they must transform tone, physicality and voice while hitting the same marks. It teaches genre as a colour laid over structure, and it sharpens recall and ensemble timing at once.

Nail a clean, memorable neutral scene first. If the beats are vague, the replays have nothing to transform — insist on clear structure. Genre lives in how, not what. Same lines, same events — only tone, pace and body change. Coach against rewriting the plot. Pick genres with strong, playable clichés early (noir, horror). Save subtle ones until the group can hold the structure.
